Like all Spanish coasts, the cost of Almeria is diverse and beautiful. The coast is completely unspoilt. To the east of Almeria is the Cabo Del Gato-Nijar natural park with its fascinating volcanic formations. This is an arid sparsely populated desert with a low annual rainfall. The area is ideal for nature lovers who will love to explore its hidden coves. The most popular coastal village is San José with its sparse local population the town has sandy streets, a natural park and one of the finest beaches on the Cabo de Gata. Other popular beaches are Playa de los Genoveses and Playa de Mónsul, with rocky volcanic formations in the sand. The main street in the town is Calle Correo where the park is located. A short walk from here along the coast is Los Esculios, a hamlet, reached along a track northeast of San José.


The naturist beaches of Vera in the north of the Costa de Almeria are popular tourist destinations. The village adjoining has a number of historical monuments like the church “La Encarnacion” built in the sixteenth century in a modern style, and its alter painting is in baroque style, the Royal Hospital “San Augustin” also built in the sixteenth century also, the monastery “La Victoria”, the chapel “Espirtu Santo” and the historic museum and the fountain called “Cuatro Canos”. A little further south is Mojacar with its beach and hillside white village. Mojacar is an ancient village at the foothills of the Sierra Cabrera. The villagers are very friendly and welcoming and the feasts are a delight for any tourist.


Almeria city is another favourite tourist destination. It is home to Alcazaba castle, an Arab monument built as a fortress in the 11th century, by King Badis of Granada. As you walk along the stone paths of Alcazaba you start feeling the Arab presence of Malaga. To the west is Almerimar with its Marinas, golf courses, hotels and many other facilities. The old fishing port town of Adra lies further west. It is an old and historical place with an Arab castle and archaeological remains.
