Alicante, the capital is located in a bay which is between Cabo Las Huertas and Cabo Santa Pola, the region has pleasant temperatures all year round with an average of 18 degrees. The landmarks in town are the Paseo Maritimo, a promenade, and the Explanada de Espana. The Iglesia de Santa Maria is in the square of the same name and is one of the city's most famous monuments. The Symbolis Fortress, the Castillo de Santa Barbara, is located 200 metres up on Benacantil hill. The castle is a multilevel structure with 3 levels above the rock. The castle had drawbridges, dungeons, living quarters for the nobility, turrets, a gunpowder arsenal and the eighteenth century chapel, Ermita de Santa Barbara. The Algar waterfalls are another tourist destination. The area has a huge water amusement park for adults and children called Aqualandia which is situated on the west side of Benidorm against a hill near Mundomar and Benidorm Palace.

Benidorm is a city which best showcases tourism. With its fine sandy beaches and humidity levels which never fall below 65 per cent, it is popular amongst tourists all year round. Mundomar is a wildlife natural park with interesting flora and fauna which is worth a bit of time. Exploring this vast natural abode is a rewarding experience.

Tourist resorts are spread out all over the region between traditional Spanish towns and villages one such village is Denia, a lovely town with a prominent castle, where a bustling commercial centre and port blend comfortably with a thriving tourist industry. The next resort, Javea is regarded as the jewel in the crown of the Costa Blanca as it attracts visitors from all over the world further down is a quaint fishing village called Moraira.
