Alicante,
the capital is located in a bay which is between
Cabo Las Huertas and Cabo Santa Pola, the region
has pleasant temperatures all year round with
an average of 18 degrees. The landmarks in town
are the Paseo Maritimo, a promenade, and the
Explanada de Espana. The Iglesia de Santa Maria
is in the square of the same name and is one
of the city's most famous monuments. The Symbolis
Fortress, the Castillo de Santa Barbara, is
located 200 metres up on Benacantil hill. The
castle is a multilevel structure with 3 levels
above the rock. The castle had drawbridges,
dungeons, living quarters for the nobility,
turrets, a gunpowder arsenal and the eighteenth
century chapel, Ermita de Santa Barbara. The
Algar waterfalls are another tourist destination.
The area has a huge water amusement park for
adults and children called Aqualandia which
is situated on the west side of Benidorm against
a hill near Mundomar and Benidorm Palace.
Benidorm is a city which best showcases tourism.
With its fine sandy beaches and humidity levels
which never fall below 65 per cent, it is popular
amongst tourists all year round. Those wanting
to explore Arab heritage should head towards
the old part of town which has an abundance
of historical monuments. The Avenida de Filipinas
has a number of Discos and bars. Another popular
destination is Guadalest monastery and museum
in the town of Bethlehem. Spanish architecture
is showcased here with miniature replicas and
houses of historical significance which are
both authentic and realistic. Their construction
is not in plastic, plaster, cardboard nor paints
and took 15 Years in the making, possibly the
highlight of your trip. Mundomar is a wildlife
natural park with interesting flora and fauna
which is worth a bit of time. Exploring this
vast natural abode is a rewarding experience.
Tourist resorts are spread out all over the
region between traditional Spanish towns and
villages one such village is Denia, a lovely
town with a prominent castle, where a bustling
commercial centre and port blend comfortably
with a thriving tourist industry. The next resort,
Javea is regarded as the jewel in the crown
of the Costa Blanca as it attracts visitors
from all over the world further down is a quaint
fishing village called Moraira. It has a modern
yacht harbour and beautiful Spanish villas all
whitewashed. Along the same journey we come
to Altea next, which is one of the most beautiful
towns on the Costa Blanca with steep, winding
cobbled streets leading to the blue-domed church
and plaza. A good view of the surrounding town
and coast may be seen from here.
